Activities for Children

Sonoma Valley offers visitors many parks and events the whole family will enjoy. Although our wine tasting culture is a very adult pastime, there are dozens of kid-friendly places to explore including historic sites such as the Sonoma Mission and Barracks.

AT A GLANCE: Old-fashioned spring fed swimming pools in a woodsy Glen Ellen setting.

HIGHLIGHTS: Bit on the run-down side but kids love this spot. Extensive picnic areas offer BBQ's, sports fields, wooded areas, cafe, arcade and more. Expect a lot of large groups.

BEST FOR: Hot summer day when the kids need some fun. Open May thru September.

Sonoma Plaza for Children

AT A GLANCE:

You don't need to go any further than the town square to give your kids lots of entertainment.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Visiting the ducks at the Plaza Duck Pond is one of the favorite things for kids to do. The playground on the west side of the Plaza is for younger children and also has low swings available. The playground “behind” City Hall is designed for the older set.

 

BEST FOR:

Families with young kids needing to burn off some energy. Grab some picnic supplies and settle down for a few hours.

AT A GLANCE: Miniature scale railroad located on 10 acres with over a mile of track.

HIGHLIGHTS: Climb aboard a 1930s miniature steam train and wind your way through tunnels and redwoods and stop at a miniature (and adorable) western town and petting zoo. Merry-go-round and a handful of small amusement park rides also available.

BEST FOR: Toddlers in love with trains! Eat before you go and arrive early in the day to avoid the crowds. Schedule is seasonal, so check before going.

Triple Creek Horse Outfit

AT A GLANCE: Guided horseback tours through Jack London State Park.

HIGHLIGHTS: Gentle ride through gorgeous vineyards and redwood groves on well-trained horses. All skill levels welcome though group rides tend more towards beginners. Complimentary wine tasting ticket given for neighboring Kunde Vineyards.

BEST FOR: Combined with a visit to the Jack London Museum and park. Minimum age of 8 and weight limit of 210 lbs.
